GEAR UP New Mexico is currently in its third seven-year commitment of partnering with school districts to help increase the number of college- and career-ready students throughout the state.

Here’s How We Help
STUDENTS
- Provide tutoring, math intervention courses, mentoring, career and college exploration, and SAT test prep.
- Introduce 8th-grade girls to the field of STEM by offering an annual conference.
- Encourage student leadership through College Engagement Organizations, community service opportunities, and attending student leadership conferences.
- Develop specific knowledge and skills needed for college searches, college applications, and enrollment processes.
- Introduce students to campus life through guided college tours and summer camps.
- Encourage students to attend college orientation programs and provide coaching through students’ freshman year of college.
COMMUNITY
- Assist parents and students with financial aid information, including the New Mexico Lottery and Opportunity Scholarships, as well as FASFA completion.
- Help schools develop relationships with business leaders and community.
- Build relationships with partners who support a college-going culture
- Encourage parent engagement in college preparation and activities.
- Maintain a robust social media presence to share GEAR UP opportunities and successes.
STAFF
- Support educators as they adopt strategies proven to help students learn more effectively.
- Strengthen educators’ leadership.
- Implement research-based student intervention programs.
- Introduce teachers and counselors to New Mexico colleges and universities through statewide bus tours.
